Church History

This church was first founded many years ago in the early 1900’s by Dr. James R. Perry. As the church continued to develop, a very eloquent and exceptional woman name Sister Alberta C. Coffria came into the church. She was ordained a minister by Dr. Perry. 

In July of 1938 she went to New York City and set up and pastored the first branch of The Philadelphia Church Of Christ. Pastor Alberta Coffria later came to Baltimore, Maryland and established a church where she was pastor. She still worked under the leadership of Bishop Perry. Because of this faithful work in the ministry, God has been Blessing The Philadelphia Church of Christ. The church’s present pastor is Pastor Daniel F. Murray who was ordained in the ministry in 1968 in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been pastor of The Philadelphia Church of Christ ever since.

There are no denominational titles given in the Bible to church groups. The Bible calls churches “The Church of God.” Acts 20:28 – Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock over the which the Holy Ghost have made you overseers, to feed “The Church of God,” which he hath purchased with His own blood.

Specific Churches are, many times, given a meaningful name or named by the place they are located. 1 Corinthians 1:2 starts by saying, “unto the church of God which is at Corinth.” Our Church, The Philadelphia Church of Christ was built on the foundation of the word of God and is non-denominational.
